Sharing best practices with other schools

As part of sharing best practices and supporting other schools, we welcomed a visit from Madunice Primary and Secondary School!

They had the opportunity to explore our school's facilities and observe our educational process up close. They participated in open classes, workshops led by our mentors, and met with the principal, who introduced them to BESST School’s values, vision, methods, and strategies.

Our goal is to inspire one another and contribute to enhancing the educational process. Together, we’re working to ensure a better future for our children.

We Made It to the Finals of the Nationwide "Best School Lunch" Competition

In February 2024, we participated in the competition "Best School Lunch." Out of 68 teams, we made it into the top 9. The finals took place on August 15, 2024, in Nitra. Our school canteen team consists of 13 talented chefs who lovingly prepare delicious meals for our pupils.

"We enhance our school menu with dried herbs in the sauce, giving it a delightful flavour. We use organic chicken breasts, which we marinate a day in advance to ensure they are tender and flavourful. We also strive to incorporate microgreens for garnish (grown by the children) to make the dishes more visually appealing," shared our food service manager, Lucia Naďová.

Would you like to prepare our competition menu at home?

🍽 Recipe for the Competition Menu:

The day before, marinate whole chicken breasts in a herb and oil marinade (we use caraway seeds, marjoram, bay leaves, thyme, paprika, dried vegetables, and salt). Bake the marinated chicken breasts whole in an oven. Once done, cut the chicken breasts into slices. Sauté root vegetables with onions, blend them into a sauce, and add herbs and tomato purée for seasoning. Bake the rice in the oven. Garnish the dish with microgreens – we used pea sprouts.

THIRD GRADERS READ TO PRESCHOOLERS

As part of our strategy to motivate children to read and promote their communication skills, we create a space for peer-to-peer learning.

Last Friday, our third graders visited the preschool where they read the story of Jožko the Hedgehog to the preschoolers. They talked about where the hedgehog lives, what he looks like and what he does for a living. Although the hedgehog is a loner, the classrooms were transformed into a forest full of hedgehogs.

Together they solved the prepared tasks, enjoyed a pleasant time full of conversations, fun and learning. In the end, the preschoolers rewarded the third graders with a small gift.

We wish our pupils much success, new knowledge and wonderful experiences on their journey of discovery. May every day at school bring them new discoveries and joys!

CEREMONY OPENING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR 2024/25.

Welcome back to Besst!

Today we opened the new school year 2024/2025 with great joy and ceremony. We are delighted to have reunited and warmly welcomed back amongst us the year one students, all pupils and staff who have joined or are part of our school family.

Our school is not just a place where children learn to read, write and count. It is a place where friendships are formed, characters are built, and talents are discovered. For many, it's a second home where they feel part of something bigger.

We look forward to all the challenges that lie ahead this year, and hope that together we can overcome them. Together we are creating a place where everyone can grow, learn and be the best they can be.

We wish all of our students a successful and happy year at Besst!

Journey to prehistoric era (5.8.-9.8.2024)

The day camp "Journey to Prehistoric Era" offered us a unique glimpse into ancient times, when the world was inhabited by giant dinosaurs and prehistoric people.

We visited the Archeopark in Cífer, where we experienced the work of archaeologists. Our expedition continued to the cave Driny, where we learned to draw dinosaurs with the illustrator Filip Horník. On Wednesday, we transformed into prehistoric people. At the Natural History Museum in Bratislava, we travelled back in time, and standing next to a massive mammoth was truly unforgettable. We also learned new information about Sandberg. We discovered fossils in a place where the SEA once existed! We finished our prehistoric week at the West Slovak Museum, cooled off with some ice cream, and enjoyed the prehistoric cinema, with popcorn, of course.

Week of adventures (29.7.-2.8.2024)

During our camp, we wandered together into the land of adventures. On Monday, we flew around the universe and the stars in the planetarium, and at school, we created our own universe. On Tuesday, we cooled off in the nature of the Hlbočianska Valley and painted cheerful stones. In the middle of the week, we saw lovely animals at Madonan farm and made a mini farm out of playdough. On Thursday, we were transported to the history of the mysterious castle in the Carpathians. At school, we drew beautiful castles and fortifications. We ended a week full of experiences together at the cinema with a fantasy fairy tale featuring a magic crayon.

RETRO camp (22.7.-26.7.2024)

In our RETRO camp we had a great time full of fun and nostalgia! 😊☀

We visited the Magical World of Smurfs, where we met our favourite blue characters. Children played golf, made colourful bracelets and together we watched old fairy tales that took us back to our childhood days. We also had lots of fun in a trampoline park in Bratislava. We refreshed ourselves with delicious ice cream and went to the cinema to watch a great film. Throughout the camp, our children learned about old fairy tales and songs, which brought them a lot of joy and new experiences.

ART AND SPLASH camp (8.7.-12.7.2024)

Our 5-day camp was full of creative and fun activities that got us excited and inspired. On Monday, we started with a fascinating introduction to the work of Pablo Picasso, followed by a dynamic "Painting with a Run" activity and refreshing water games that brought lots of joy and laughter.

On Tuesday, we spent the day at the cozy OOZI café in Trnava, where we tried creative techniques such as graffiti, painting sneakers, caps, socks, bags and even body painting. We also decorated our bodies with colourful children's tattoos and enthusiastically learned to ride skateboards and scooters.

On Wednesday we explored the world of Vincent van Gogh, discovering the fascinating world of pointillism and making beautiful mandalas out of legumes. We painted according to music, which was very relaxing, and created amazing works of art out of clay. In addition, we worked in teams to test our dexterity and logical thinking by building a tower out of marshmallows and skewers, which we could buy in an improvised shop. From there, we sourced the necessary ingredients by correctly finding pairs in a memory game, which added a fun, competitive atmosphere to the activity.

On Thursday we visited the famous Danubiana Gallery in Bratislava, where we had a guided tour full of artistic highlights. We then took a boat trip on the Danube, which was an unforgettable experience full of beautiful views for everyone.

We ended Friday with a gala opening for parents where we proudly displayed our artwork. We also prepared delicious refreshments and showed a slideshow with photos from the week alongside the rehearsed art program. The camp was a great opportunity to develop creativity, make new friends and share memorable experiences together.

We Have Become Readers

And the first graders will soon be second graders! It's unbelievable how quickly time flies. And just as quickly, we managed to travel through the entire kingdom of Queen Graphia, learn all the letters, and read all SEVEN PRIMERS. So we can proudly say: "WE HAVE BECOME READERS!" We ceremoniously sealed all the primers with our thumbprints, recited the reader's oath, and officially entered the literary world of readers.

CHILDREN'S DAY

The fitness of the body reflects the fitness of the spirit.

Sports activities have given us all new strength and vitality. The children participated in various games where they overcame challenges with fun and sportsmanship. Each team had its unique cheering shout and at the end there was no lack of well deserved rewards in the form of medals and fruit rewards.

It was a great experience for all of us. Hooray for sport!

Week in nature Y5-Y8

Week in Nature Y5 -Y8

Completing scout tasks, getting badges (e.g. courage, keeping secret, blindness, solitude), building a fire, putting up a tent, helping in the kitchen - these are all the activities of our week in the nature in Planinka near Dechtice. Pupils enjoy days outdoors without mobile phones and internet connection, with a ball in their hand and a friend by their side. We are having a good time, we are all healthy and full of energy for the next challenges. We are gradually getting closer to achieving the goal of the week-long stay - strengthening the bonds of friendship between the pupils, which will surely be strengthened during tomorrow's hiking trip.

OUR LIBRARY CELEBRATED ITS SECOND BIRTHDAY

Another year full of exciting adventures that the world of books opens is behind us and our Dvojbodka is one year older again.

We celebrated this momentous occasion with an actual reading performed by our distinguished guest Tibor Mrkvička Hujdič.

Together we are creating a culture of reading because we believe that books develop, inspire and enrich children. It is the foundation of learning itself.

May our library continue to flourish and we look forward to a dream and another year full of literary experiences.

NIGHT WITH ANDERSEN

Or as we already call it here, the SLEEPOVER at school.

For some, a day full of expectations, for others, especially 1st graders, it is a big challenge to stay up late and sleepover at school for the first time. The emotion of the sleepover could be felt everywhere.
This year the theme was The Snow Queen and the story of Kai and Gerda.
Ordinary classrooms were transformed into little snow kingdoms in the afternoon, but no one was left out in the cold.
The children had to show different kinds of skills, knowledge and all kinds of fun disciplines, but at the same time, they had to save their strength for the TREASURE, which was not easy to find. We are looking forward to the next sleepover of this kind.
