WE LEARN TO CODE

During the week of 6th-12th December pupils and teachers around the world celebrate the Computer Science Week. We also took part in it through an activity Hour of Code, during which we spent one hour coding. Year 1 pupils were coding with an app called Code Monkey as part of their Lego Engineering classes. They learned simple sequencing and some even tried out some loops. They all enjoyed this hour and can't wait to get back to coding with their Lego robots!

Older pupils were working on a more advanced learning sequence that they will be able to use and continue with in the future.

WE GAVE JOY

This year's Christmas will once again be full of love, gratitude and smiles. Our school has traditionally joined the beautiful challenge "How much love fits in a shoe box". Everyone- kindergarten, primary and secondary school and high school, worked together for this beautiful idea.

With this selfless deed, we will give joy under the Christmas tree to several seniors in the retirement homes.

Thanks to everyone who did not hesitate to participate and give presents to others. 👏❤️

ST. NICHOLAS ARRIVED TO OUR SCHOOL

"'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there."

Our children also prepared some English poems and songs for St. Nicholas, angel and devil, who arrived to our school on Monday and for their nice welcome our pupils were gifted with sweet treats.

Encyclopedias

Encyclopedias are educational books full of interesting information. As part of the repeating of the curriculum from the previous school year, Year 6 pupils decided to create their own encyclopedias in which they find exactly what interests them. :) So we set a topic, divided the subtasks and set to work in our beautiful library. Students searched for information, created their own passwords, and also illustrated their own encyclopedias. They created posters full of interesting facts on the topic of EARTH, DINOSAURS and ANIMALS.

Learning Trnava festival

Learning through experiences - this is one of the ways we want to educate pupils, and that is why we visited the first Learning Trnava festival. Pupils had the opportunity to see and try out various experiments in chemistry and physics, test their level of English and other foreign languages, check the quality of their eyesight, or see the car of the future. We participated in workshops, creative workshops or competitions and left with a lot of experiences and souvenirs. We are already looking forward to the next year of this event.

WE ARE A DIGITAL GENERATION

Digititalization is a part of today's society, which is why we are educating our students to acquire the skills needed for the 21st century. One of the effective ways to playfully and interactively deepen their programming skills are MICRO:BITS - microcomputers, the use of which is also suitable for the Primary school.

Our Year 4 pupils who are working hard on the "pedometer" project prove it. They help each other and strive for a successful result. Year 5 pupils are focused on a project in which they find out how the current number of people in a room can be calculated using a micro:bit.

Year 6-8 pupils are fully starting with the project this December.

We have many challenges ahead of us and a lot of motivation!

These activities were supported by the Telekom Endowment Fund at the Pontis Foundation.

The culture of reading as the DNA of our school

In order to motivate pupils, increase their interest in reading and make interesting books more accessible to them, a unique SELF-SERVICE LIBRARY was created in our school.

We are glad that more than half of our pupils read regularly, but with the new concept of the library we want to increase the number of readers and continue to develop a culture of reading and reading literacy.

The Slovak section of our library has grown by 350 new titles of MODERN CHILDREN'S LITERATURE and more titles will be added to the English section soon.

The premises of our library are not only used as a reading room during breaks and after school, but also as an inspiring space during the teaching process.

Mental Health Day

In order to be healthy we eat fruits and vegetables, we go to nature, we exercise,. . . .

But what about our soul, it needs good care too. Sometimes we don't feel well, but we're not sick. We talked to the pupils that it is okay if we sometimes feel different and we can't describe it. It is important not to keep it to yourself and to have someone around whom we can trust.

Pupils have developed their own tips on how to promote mental health and what to do when they feel sad. We tried something on our own skin and it's proven - laughter is contagious and it's a cure for everything.

WE VISITED THE TRAFFIC PLAYGROUND

The main reason for our visit was to improve traffic education and acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of transport, signs and regulations of road traffic. Biking on a road with traffic signs has become a popular activity.

We believe that we have added another life value to the children: to learn, verify and improve their acquired knowledge directly on the real model situations created on the traffic playground.

As a bonus, children received a driver's license after completing the course.

World School Milk Day

On International Milk Day, we remembered what vitamins and benefits we have from it. It can be consumed in various forms. It doesn't have to be just milk, but also cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, bryndza or cream. It's up to you which dairy product you choose. 🧀

Of course, there are those among us who cannot consume milk due to lactose. But there is also an alternative for them.🙂

THE EUROPEAN NIGHT OF RESEARCHERS 2021

As part of the festival, our school has joined the "Visit your school, get to know your scientist" project, which allowed us to look into the world of scientific research.

Thanks to that, we had the honor to get to know the work of scientist RNDr. Mgr. Jaroslava Brňová, PhD. - Head of the Department of Hospital Hygiene and Epidemiology at the Trnava Hospital. The doctor spoke to the Year 8 pupils about her journey to education, what she is currently working on as a scientist, and in her talk she focused on the current topic of "Microorganisms around us".

Adventurous & Creative (12.-16.7.2021)

We spent the second week of the summer school club both adventurously and creatively. During this week we walked through Hlbočianska Valley, visited and also fed animals in Malkia Park. We were a little surprised by the weather when visiting Haluzicka tiesnava, but since we are strong, we managed it without any problems.

The next day we visited Driny Cave and the last day was a bit sporty. We jumped in Jump City, crawled in the pool on the playground and played a "balloon war" with water balloons. We also created something every day: t-shirts that will remind us of these days, animals made out of paper plates, lookout towers made of marshmallows and spaghetti, or a poster with memories of our moments together.

We spent a week full of creativity and fun.

BANANA summer club (6.-9.7.2021)

BANANA summer club was full of fun and great memories. We started with a pleasant day spent on the farm, where we got to know various rare breeds of common animals. We fed them and learned interesting facts about them thanks to playing the game. Later we wandered around Trnava and saved the Minnions, and earned delicious reward - ice cream. We played sports and enjoyed various supercreative activities with the Minnions.

End of the School Year 2020/2021

Today we enjoyed the closing ceremony of the school year 2020/2021.

The last day of this school year has come. A school year that was different again, a little turbulent, a little crazy, at times challenging, but still full of experiences and possibilities. For some time, our classes moved home again - to children's rooms and living rooms. Online education has been a significant part of our teaching and learning. I am glad that, despite the modified conditions and possibilities, we have managed it together and gained new experiences that have taken us all further.

Despite that our school year went a little differently than usual, it was again full of success you achieved in competitions, representing our school, and extraordinary results throughout your studies.

Congratulations to all who have achieved extraordinary success, but also to all others who have done their best!

I wish you all beautiful summer full of adventures and well-deserved rest.

(Editor's note: Children were in classrooms without face masks ONLY for the time needed for taking the photos.)
