What is it like to swap two weeks in front of the classroom for a seat at a student’s desk?
Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, I got to experience it this summer during the Fluently English language course at ETI in Malta.
Two weeks of intensive English meant plenty of conversations, working on pronunciation and vocabulary, quizzes, discussions on a wide range of topics, and presentations with feedback from our teacher and classmates. Our small international group brought together teachers from Germany, Poland, Latvia, France, the Czech Republic and Switzerland – and sharing experiences with colleagues from different countries was another valuable part of the stay.
But English didn’t end in the classroom. It continued during our social gatherings and while exploring Malta. We visited Valletta, Mdina and Gozo, and thanks to our local guide, we discovered not only the sights, but also the everyday life, traditions and customs of the Maltese people. For a geography teacher, it was the perfect combination of learning and discovering a new country.
I came home with greater confidence in English, new friendships, and the experience of knowing that I can function and think in English every day.
Would I do it again? Without hesitation!
Erasmus+ is an opportunity to learn, explore and push your boundaries – not just the ones on the map.
